Auto Diagnostics

Advanced Diagnostics Technology

If you drive a 1996 model-year vehicle or later, it comes standard with the second-generation onboard diagnostics system, otherwise known as OBD-II. The OBD-II system is essentially your car’s self-diagnostic and reporting function. Its main job is to constantly monitor the engine, transmission, and exhaust operations.

If it detects a problem with any one of these components, it will send the appropriate diagnostic trouble code (DTC) to your vehicle’s internal computer. The DTC will then be retrieved through check engine light diagnostics service. This lets us know where the problem is located in your vehicle. Since the OBD-II system is a uniform entity from one model to the next, the list of DTCs remains consistent, allowing us to accurately troubleshoot the problem regardless of what you drive.

At Johnsons Transmission and Auto, we have years of experience diagnosing trouble codes, inspecting problems areas, and coming up with a solution.
